canaries weather, temperatures & climate of canary isles
The “weather in canaries” is not so dependend of each canary isles weather. The most influence on local “canary weather” have the higher mountains on Gran Canary Island, Tenerife, La Palma and El Hierro. This influence is indeed higher than each isles situation more or less far from the north-african coast. The higher mountains are dividing each of this islands into seperate weather zones, because they detain winds and clouds from the leeward parts of the higher mountains.
The “canary weather” and climate on each leeward part of this isles above is more similar than between windward and leeward part of one canary island. On Gran Canaria you can sometimes observe Clouds and rain in the north and cloudless sunshine in the leeward south. The average temperatures in Gran Canaries south could be a 4° C higher than in the northern windward part (mostly in january, february and march).
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the “less sensitive” canary isles for that strong weather effects. The only reason is that there are no higher moutains working like a barrier. Thats why some people say that this two northern canary isles are more “boring” in landscape.
Canaries weather is only complete different and more similar under special weather circumstances: The Calima brings warm and dusty winds from east or sout-east and for many people the “Calima days” are the worst canary weather effect.
